Information
aliwen (Chile, 1993) is a non-binary trans* femme and brown activist, artist, curator, researcher, and writer from Chile, currently based in Tôkyô, Japan. Their intersests transit between artistic practices, anarchic autonomy, everyday decolonization, and sex-gender divergence, and they activate different processes of artistic and archival research that allows them to intersect these threads in a fluid manner. They graduated with honors from the Undergraduate Degree Art Theory and History at the University of Chile, later obtaining the Monbukagakusho MEXT 2020 Scholarship to study a Masters on Artistic Studies and Curatorial Practices at Tôkyô University of the Arts (東京藝術大学). They have taught courses on critical theory, socially engaged art and performance at institutions such as The University of Chile, Palacio La Moneda Cultural Center (Santiago) and the Institute for Postnatural Studies (Madrid). They contribute to different specialized art media such as A*Desk (Barcelona), Artishock (Santiago) or Caja Negra (Buenos Aires). Their first book Barricade Criticism. Body, Writing and Visuality in Contemporary Chile was published in November 2021 by Brooklyn and Santiago based publisher Sangría Editora.
